In the heart of the 18th century, Thomas Jefferson—third President of the United States and devoted wine enthusiast—discovered Burgundy during his time in France as ambassador (1785–1789). Captivated by the richness and complexity of Burgundy’s wines, he visited the region’s vineyards, notably those of Vosne-Romanée and Montrachet.

Jefferson expressed particular admiration for Montrachet, which he described as “the best white wine of Burgundy.” He was also fond of the red wines from Vosne-Romanée, celebrated for their elegance and depth. Upon returning to the United States, he regularly imported these wines to his Monticello estate in Virginia, helping to introduce France’s finest grands crus to the New World.

Today, the wines of Vosne-Romanée and Montrachet continue to embody the excellence of Burgundian viticulture. Their subtle aromas and exceptional aging potential make them essential references for connoisseurs of fine wine.

At HK Butler, we proudly offer selections from these storied appellations. Our Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noirs and Montrachet Grands Crus represent the pinnacle of balance, depth, and finesse. Much like Jefferson, our clients value wines that not only impress with flavor but resonate with history—wines worthy of both celebration and contemplation.
